An AI-native SDK for Investec banking
An npm SDK that adds conversational banking, spending analysis, fraud scoring, receipt scanning and voice to any app built on the Investec Open API. Published on npm, with headless React components and a demo app.
The problem
Investec’s Open API gives developers real accounts and transactions. Turning that into anything intelligent (categorised spend, risk on a transaction, a chat that can answer “where did my money go?”) means rebuilding the same OAuth, data shaping and prompting work in every app.
Design decisions
No hosted infrastructure in the trust chain. The SDK calls Investec and the model provider directly with the developer’s own credentials. For banking data, not being a middleman is the feature.
Sandbox by default. Production data is an explicit opt-in.
Standard Request and Response. createChatHandler works with Next.js App Router, Hono, or any runtime that speaks web-standard requests, and takes any Vercel AI SDK model.
Typed, structured outputs. analyzeSpending returns categories, insights and a 30-day prediction. detectFraud returns a 0–100 risk score, reasons, and whether to ask the user to confirm.
Shape
A Turborepo monorepo: the SDK package, headless React components and hooks, shared types, a Next.js demo app, and a docs site. Two lines of code give an app a streaming banking assistant backed by real data.
